Pet Peeves: Dreading the ‘cone of shame’

With Roxy Starfish

Yo dawg,

roxy Good to see your smiling mug again. Thanks for looking back this way to meet my friends looking for a new home. They all come to you Roxy cool pet-vetted. Props to both Giive a (bleep) and The Santa Monica Daily Press for helping spread the word. Together we’re changing lives right here and now — friendly, furry, funny lives.

But I got a peeve …

Cause Celeb: Actress’ latest role is Rescuer

by Colin Newton

Maybe you’ve felt like your life could be a movie, but Santa Monica-based actress Marie Paquim can actually say that her life will be. Working in the entertainment industry since the age of three, Paquim was kidnapped by human traffickers and rescued by the FBI following a two-and-a-half-year search.

Despite developing her dark ordeal into the upcoming feature The Land of the Free, she still has time for the dogs.

Ace, the inspiration for Ace of Hearts and owner Kari Whitman, who was so brokenhearted at his passing that she created the nonprofit in his honor to save more dogs from high-kill shelters.

“I was looking for a nonprofit related to animals because I love animals,” Paquim told Giive a (bleep). “I was looking for the right nonproft organization.”

Roxy’s Pet Peeves: That cat’s gonna be heard

With Roxy Starfish

Hey dawg,

roxyThanks for peeping back this way. Look and see which of my furry (and hairless) friends are still looking for new homes … like yours! Props to Giive a (bleep) and The Santa Monica Daily Press for helping spread the word. Together we can change lives in this space, sometimes nine lives.

But I got a peeve. We all do. Well, it’s not really mine, but on behalf of my feline friends. They meow for a myriad of reasons (yes, I feel good about that alliteration). They could be hurt, hungry or just saying hi. Don’t shoosh them. What they don’t do is meow for no reason at all. They might even just be getting old. Increased vocalization is fairly common in senior cats. Hey, we can all be a crank-puss when we realize we’re not as young as we used to be.

Roxy’s Pet Peeves: Whose dog have you been loving?

With Roxy Starfish

Yo dawg,

roxyThanks for turning those caring eyes back this way. Look and see which of my furry (and hairless) friends are still looking for new homes … like yours! Props to Giive a (bleep) and The Santa Monica Daily Press for helping spread the word. Together we can change lives in this space, sometimes nine lives.

But I got a peeve. We all do. You know brushes my coat the wrong way? When you come home smelling of other dogs! Where have you been? It’s cool spreading the love to my besties, but sometimes you REALLY smell of the canine persuasion, like you were wrestling on the carpet and getting all up in that belly … the things we used to do together. (Insert small violin music here).

Roxy’s Pet Peeves: Food’s got no place on my face

With Roxy Starfish

Hey dawg,

roxyThanks for turning those sparkling eyes back this way. Look and see which of my furry (and hairless) friends are still looking for new homes … like yours! Props to Giive a (bleep) and The Santa Monica Daily Press for helping spread the word. Together we can change lives in this space, sometimes nine lives.

But I got a peeve. You know that cupcake you want me to balance on my snout? Don’t do that. Don’t do any trick that involves balancing food on my nose. For one, I can’t eat chocolate. Second, I’m not a dolphin. I venture to guess a dolphin wouldn’t want to balance a cupcake (or apple or toilet paper roll) on their face either. A little respect please.
