The WFHC will see you now

By Giive staff

Started by a small group of dedicated feminists and mid-level clinicians as part of a larger social change movement in Santa Monica, the Westside Family Health Center is now in its 42nd year of providing comprehensive, cost effective care to nearly 10,000 patients, all in an environment that empowers them to take an assertive role in their well-being.

Westside Family Health 9 (1)The WFHC, a federally qualified health center, operates with the belief that good health is more than just treating illness. They stress preventive care (such as mammogram screenings the first Thursday of every month) and offer a broad range of services for women, men and children.

In November, the WFHC opened their fourth satellite location — a new clinic at 11101 Venice Boulevard, a former Women’s Clinic and long-time collaborative partner, which closed its medical practice in late October. The new 1,426-square foot site expands services beyond reproductive health and prenatal care to include adult primary care.

“The West Los Angeles site was a great opportunity for us,” said Debra A. Farmer, WFHC’s President/Chief Executive Officer. “We are at maximum capacity at our Santa Monica site, especially with patients newly insured through the Affordable Care Act. WFHC has gained four more exam rooms, allowing us to see more underserved, uninsured and low-income families who are trying make ends meet.”
